Director of Product Compliance and Safety

Tim Cassidy is director of product compliance and safety for Best Buy Co., Inc., the world’s largest consumer electronics retailer.   In this role, Tim oversees the company’s product safety programs including compliance with voluntary and mandatory product safety standards, energy efficiency standards, radio frequency interference standards, and material substance requirements. Tim works in collaboration with industry associations, certification bodies, and regulators on urgent matters of product safety.  Tim is primarily responsible for all private label and directly imported product premarket compliance assessments, and product quality and safety incidents analysis.

Tim received his MS – Management of Technology from the University of Minnesota’s Technology Leadership Institute (TLI), and is now serving on the advisory board for TLI. Tim serves on the product safety working groups of RILA (Retail Industry Leadership Association) and CTA (Consumer Technology Association), and on the CTA energy efficient working group.  Tim has also served the Saint Louis University advanced product safety program as an instructor for supply chain product engineering, quality and safety.

Prior to joining Best Buy in November 2008, Tim was Vice President of Engineering for an electronics component manufacturer.  In this role he worked on a similar variety of compliance and safety concerns, as well as taking responsibility for quality assurance and new product development efforts.
