Shelby Mathis currently serves as the Small Business Ombudsman at the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).  The SBO office is the agency’s primary point of contact for small businesses seeking assistance in complying with agency rules.  In her role as SBO, Shelby provides information, guidance, and technical assistance to small businesses in a fashion that is clear, easy to understand, and consistent with agency policy.

Shelby previously worked as a Technology Licensing Associate at Johns Hopkins Technology Ventures in the Physical Sciences and Engineering group, served as the Intellectual Property Director for the University of Alaska Fairbanks, and was in private legal practice for several years before entering public service.  She has a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, a Juris Doctorate, and is a licensed Patent Attorney.
