Principal Advisor with Trading Standards

Martin Rushton is the Principal Advisor with Trading Standards which is a regulatory unit within the Ministry of Business Innovation and Employment in New Zealand. He has nearly 40 years’ experience in Consumer Protection issues with a primary focus on consumer product safety.  The majority of his career was with Trading Standards in the UK - mainly in Scotland - for over 30 years before emigrating with his family to New Zealand in 2006. Martin has worked both at the 'sharp end' on operations and enforcement and also at the strategic level on the development of legislation and in senior management roles.  He has been a member of several product standards committees covering a range of consumer products including children’s toys and children’s nightwear.  He had a number of professional and academic qualifications including an MBA from Edinburgh's Napier University. He is also a Fellow of the UK Chartered Institute of trading Standards (CTSI)
