Colette Durst has over 20 years of experience in the field of intellectual property law, as both a paralegal and an attorney. Colette is based in Boca Raton, Florida and leads the trademark team for Johnson Controls. Colette’s primary responsibilities encompass all aspects of brand protection, particularly anti-counterfeit, gray market, trademark enforcement, domain name enforcement, trademark clearance, trademark counseling and trademark acquisition.

Over the past several years Colette developed and established a robust and successful anti-counterfeiting program for Johnson Controls Retail Solutions and Fire Protection Products business units. Colette is developing similar programs for other Johnson Controls business units.

Prior to joining Tyco in 2008, Colette was Assistant General Counsel at Walmart where she managed Walmart’s trademark portfolios in the US, Canada and Central America. Colette started her legal career in the DC office of Pattishall McAuliffe and then joined the firm of Oblon Spivak in Alexandria, Virginia as Senior Counsel. Colette earned her J.D. from the Washington College of Law at the American University in 1996 and her undergraduate degree from Trinity University in Washington D.C. Colette was recently named a 2016 Corporate IP Star by Managing Intellectual Property.

Colette is a member of INTA’s Anti-Counterfeiting Committee and the ACC Trademark Committee.
