Dr. rer. sec. Dipl.-Ing. Matthias Honnacker has been employed as Senior Ministerial Officer at the Bavarian Ministry of the Environment and Consumer Protection since December 2013. In the unit responsible for Technical Consumer Protection and Market Surveillance, he deals with fundamental questions of general product safety as well as cooperation in market surveillance in Germany and at European and international level.

In addition, he is the official representative of the German Federal Council (Bundesrat) in the "Internal Market for Products - Market Surveillance Group" (IMP-MSG).

Prior to his change to Bavaria, Dr. Honnacker had been working as a scientific officer and deputy head of the unit "Basics of Product Safety" at the Federal Institute for Occupational Safety and Health in Dortmund since 2004. He was responsible, among other things, for the areas of market surveillance, risk assessment, statistics on defective products, and project management.

Mr. Honnacker made his entry into the professional life as an officer of the German Forces (Bundeswehr). After this time and after studying safety engineering at the University of Wuppertal, he initially worked for several years for Dräger Safety in the sales department for personal protective equipment and gas measurement technology.

Dr. Honnacker achieved his Doctoral degree at the University of Wuppertal in the field of "Safety and Quality Law" on the German system of accreditation and conformity assessment.

Matthias Honnacker is a member of the Board of PROSAFE and chairs the Risk Assessment Working Group that is part of the European Joint Market Surveillance Actions organized by PROSAFE and co-financed by the European Commission.
