julie Vallese is the Managing Director of Public and Government Affairs for the Juvenile Products Manufacturers Association (JPMA).  As Managing Director, Vallese manages the public affairs, government relations and communications strategies that position JPMA as a leader on significant public policy matters to raise its profile among key audiences and stakeholder groups. Vallese also serves as the Association’s spokesperson and executes communication strategies and activities that support the organizations overall brand and mission.

A veteran consumer product safety advocate, Julie served as Director of Public Affairs for the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission from 2005-2009.  Vallese served as the spokesperson and principal media advisor for the agency.  During her time at the agency, Vallese focused the offices’ attention on building successful education and outreach programs in such areas as in hidden home hazards, consumer product recall response, fire safety and drowning prevention. She appeared regularly on top morning news programs such as TODAY, Good Morning America and CBS Early Show. 

Prior to her time in government, Julie was a dedicated journalist for more than 15 years with  Cable News Network (CNN). She was the network’s Consumer and Regulatory Affairs correspondent and editor. In this position Vallese reported on news related to automotive industry, product safety, traffic safety and child safety, among other topics. She also covered regulatory process and legislation on Capitol Hill.  

Vallese is an award winning journalist. During her tenure at CNN, Vallese was recognized for her contributions to CNN’s Emmy award-winning coverage of 9/11 and the 2000 election. In 2005 she was the recipient of the Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) Spotlight Award.

Julie lives in the Washington, DC area with her husband and two sons.
