Gavin Huntley-Fenner, Ph.D. is a human factors and safety consultant with more than 20 years in the field as a researcher, author, educator and business advisor. His doctorate is in Brain and Cognitive Sciences. Huntley-Fenner Advisors, Inc. guides corporate and law firm clients on human factors, hazard analysis and decision-making relative to health, safety, product design and labeling. Dr. Huntley-Fenner was a member of the U.S. Virtual Technical Advisory Group (VTAG) contributing revisions to ISO/IEC Guide 50: Guidelines for child safety (2012–2014). He also served on the US Food and Drug Administration Risk Communication Advisory Committee (2010 – 2014). In 2014, he was an organizer of the National Academy of Sciences (NAS)/Institute of Medicine Workshop on “Characterizing and Communicating Uncertainty in the Assessment of Benefits and Risks of Pharmaceutical Products”. In 2016, he presented “A Guide to Engineers’ Involvement in Litigation: Human Factors” at the Institute of Electrical and Electronics and Engineers Symposium on Product Compliance Engineering. Dr Huntley-Fenner’s recent papers include a chapter on “Human Factors” in “Communicating Risks and Benefits: An Evidence Based User's Guide” published by the FDA and a journal article on “Negative halo effect illustrations for selected highly beneficial medical devices and drugs” published in BMC Public Health. www.huntleyfenneradvisors.com
